Oyo NUJ Chairman Celebrated for Pioneering Campaign That Secured Alhassan Yahaya’s Presidency

The Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Council, Chief Ademola Babalola, has earned widespread acclaim for his exceptional leadership in spearheading the campaign that delivered Comrade Alhassan Yahaya as the new NUJ National President.

In a statement jointly signed by the Vice Chairman, Comrade Seye Ojo, and Secretary, Comrade Olusola Oladapo, the Oyo State Council hailed Chief Babalola’s strategic foresight and unwavering commitment as the Director-General of the A+A Campaign Council. His efforts culminated in Yahaya’s resounding victory, securing 436 votes, far outpacing his closest rivals, Bamidele Atunbi with 97 votes and Mallam Garba Mohammed with 39 votes.

The statement emphasized that the election outcome not only marked a new chapter for the union but also reinforced unity and fairness in its leadership structure. Dr. Abimbola Oyetunde emerged as the Deputy National President, alongside other dedicated executives, further bolstering the union’s capacity for impactful leadership.

Recognizing the historical significance of the presidency’s regional rotation, the council noted that the position had remained in the Southern region for nine years under Chief Chris Isiguzo and Alhaji Waheed Odusile. “In the spirit of equity, justice, and fair play, Chief Babalola marshaled resources and support to ensure the presidency returned to the Northern region, with Comrade Alhassan Yahaya from Gombe State emerging victorious,” the statement added.

The council also celebrated the re-election of Mrs. Ronke Afebioye Samo from Ekiti State as Vice President for the B-Zone, an affirmation of members’ confidence in her leadership.

“Chief Babalola’s visionary leadership has not only elevated the Oyo State Council but has also strengthened the collective resolve of journalists across Nigeria. His ability to galvanize support, uphold the values of journalism, and champion the cause of the union is commendable,” the council remarked.

As the NUJ embarks on this new era under President Yahaya, the Oyo State Council urged members nationwide to rally behind the new leadership, fostering unity, professionalism, and excellence in Nigerian journalism.

“With gratitude and pride, we look forward to a tenure that prioritizes the welfare, safety, and ethical standards of journalists while driving progress and cohesion within the union,” the statement concluded.
