Honourable Chijioke Ihunwo, the newly elected Chairman of Obio/Akpor Local Government, has issued a direct warning to Barrister Nyesom Wike, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Governor of Rivers State. Ihunwo declared that Wike’s once formidable political influence in Rivers has been dismantled, signaling the end of his control over the state.
In a bold statement after casting his vote in Port Harcourt, Ihunwo emphasized that Rivers State has only one leader, and Wike, after serving his term, must step aside for Governor Sir Siminalayi Fubara to govern without interference.
“Rivers State has one governor, and that’s Sir Siminalayi Fubara,” Ihunwo stated. “Wike had his time in office, but he cannot govern this state from Abuja. The people have spoken, and the political structure he once controlled has been overtaken.”
Ihunwo drew a parallel between Wike’s current predicament and the tactics the former governor used against his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi. According to him, Wike’s political challenges now are a result of his past actions.
“What Wike did to Amaechi is exactly what is happening to him now. It’s the law of karma. He’s feeling the same heat he once applied,” Ihunwo remarked, portraying Wike’s current struggles as poetic justice for his past political strategies.
Furthermore, Ihunwo criticized Wike’s involvement in protests within Rivers State, noting the irony of Wike now leading street demonstrations.
“Wike mocked Atiku’s supporters for protesting and dismissed them as mere ‘Student Union Government (SUG) leaders,’ yet today, he is on the streets himself, leading protests,” Ihunwo said, concluding that Wike’s political downfall is an inevitable consequence of his own actions.
Ihunwo’s remarks underscore the shifting political landscape in Rivers State, as Wike faces mounting opposition from his former allies, now positioning themselves under the current governor’s leadership.
