The Divine Mandate Team, a leading contender in the forthcoming December 9, 2025 elections of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Pa Anthony ‘Tunji Adedeji, the beloved father of one of its dedicated members, Temilola Akarah. Pa Adedeji passed away in Ibadan on Tuesday, November 11, 2025.
In a heartfelt condolence message issued on behalf of the team, the Chairmanship Candidate, Comrade Raji Adebayo, described the late Pa Adedeji’s transition as a painful and unexpected loss — one that struck the team with deep sadness, especially at a crucial moment in their campaign journey.
> “We were shocked to receive the news of Baba’s passing, particularly because it came just hours after the official flag-off of our campaign at Temilola’s chapel — NUJIC,” Adebayo said. “This is a difficult moment for us all, as we have lost not just a father to one of our own, but a man whose support, encouragement, and prayers meant a lot to our collective mission.”
Adebayo went on to praise Temilola Akarah’s uncommon strength and devotion, noting that her composure in the face of personal grief reflected rare courage and commitment to the cause of the team.
> “Temilola’s dedication humbled every one of us. Despite losing her father in the early hours of the morning, she insisted that the campaign activities go on uninterrupted. She even asked her close friend not to disclose the sad news until after the campaign launch, so as not to disrupt the programme,” Adebayo recounted. “That level of selflessness and discipline is exceptional — it speaks volumes about her character and love for this team.”
Describing the late Pa Adedeji as a man who raised responsible, God-fearing children and supported noble causes, Adebayo said the Divine Mandate Team remains grateful to God for the gift of such a daughter to their fold.
> “Baba gave us a gem — a hardworking, reliable, and loyal member in Temilola. For that, we are eternally grateful,” he said.
On behalf of all members of the Divine Mandate Team, Adebayo extended condolences to the Akarah and Adedeji families, praying that Almighty God grants the departed eternal rest and comforts all who mourn him.
> “We stand firmly with Temilola and her family at this difficult time,” he concluded. “May the Almighty strengthen them and grant them the fortitude to bear this painful loss.”
He added that the team will participate actively in the burial ceremonies once announced, pledging their full support and presence.
As the Divine Mandate Team continues to demonstrate that, beyond politics and campaigns, its movement is founded on humanity, empathy, and solidarity — values essential to transforming the Oyo NUJ Council into a truly united and compassionate community — the team appeals to all journalists in Oyo State to join hands in the collective effort to make our Union great again.
