President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan as the new Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HCSF), effective August 27, 2026.
Enitan, an experienced career civil servant from Osun State, will succeed the incumbent Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, who is due to retire from the Federal Civil Service upon attaining the statutory retirement age of 60.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on behalf of the Presidency.
According to the statement, Enitan is currently the most senior Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service, having served in that capacity for seven years and seven months.
He has held key Permanent Secretary positions in the Ministry of Police Affairs, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, and the Office of the Vice President. He is currently the Permanent Secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education.
His extensive experience across several strategic government institutions, the Presidency said, places him in a strong position to lead the Federal Civil Service and advance ongoing administrative reforms.
The Presidency described Enitan as a senior civil servant with considerable institutional knowledge and a deep understanding of the operations, structures and responsibilities of the Federal Civil Service.
President Tinubu charged the incoming Head of Service to consolidate and deepen the reforms and innovations already taking place within the Federal Civil Service.
He specifically tasked Enitan with strengthening professionalism, efficiency, accountability and innovation, while ensuring that the Civil Service becomes increasingly responsive to the needs and aspirations of Nigerians.
The President also urged him to build on the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda by leading a Civil Service that is merit-driven, effective, accountable and capable of delivering quality public services.
President Tinubu also expressed appreciation to the outgoing Head of Service, Mrs. Walson-Jack, for what he described as her distinguished service and contributions to the country.
The President acknowledged the reforms, innovations and institutional improvements recorded in the Federal Civil Service during her tenure, expressing gratitude for her years of dedicated public service.
He wished her a fulfilling and successful life after retirement and commended her for her contributions to the development of the nation’s public administration.
Enitan was born on December 12, 1966. He began his education in Ibadan, where he attended Ajibode Grammar School, before proceeding to the College of Arts and Science, Ile-Ife.
He later attended the University of Lagos, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance and Banking in 1988.
In 2015, he further strengthened his academic credentials with a Master of Science degree in Public Policy Analysis from Nasarawa State University, Lafia.
With decades of experience in the Nigerian public service and exposure to several critical sectors of government, Enitan’s appointment places an experienced career civil servant at the helm of the Federal Civil Service as the Tinubu administration seeks to further reposition the service for improved efficiency and effective implementation of government policies.
