Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has made a substantial impact on education within the Oyo South Senatorial District through his innovative holiday coaching program, now in its second year.
As stated in a release signed by Akeem Abas, Special Adviser to Senator Alli on Media, the initiative, which was launched in 2023, aims to bolster the academic performance of students during their holiday break, and the results have been nothing short of extraordinary.
Initially spanning 18 centers across the district, the program has expanded to 20 centers this year, reflecting the growing demand for educational support. Senator Alli’s foresight in addressing the educational needs of SS2 students has paid off, as numerous beneficiaries have reported significant improvements in their academic results.
In a move to further encourage academic excellence, the program includes a mock examination, rewarding the top three students from each center with scholarships that cover their West African Examinations Council (WAEC) fees. This gesture has provided substantial financial relief to many families, making quality education more accessible to students across the district.
Looking to the future, Senator Alli has pledged ongoing support for students who secure admission to higher institutions. Partnering with the Good Governance and Development Initiative (GGDI), he has committed to providing N100,000 annually to each of the 54 students who gain admission this year, as long as they maintain a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of Second Class Upper or higher.
Senator Alli’s initiative has not only eased the financial burdens of countless families but has also motivated students to strive for academic excellence. Parents and students alike have praised his dedication to nurturing the next generation of leaders, noting that his efforts are laying the groundwork for a brighter future in the Oyo South Senatorial District.
“This program has been a blessing,” one grateful parent remarked. “Senator Alli is not just providing temporary aid; he’s investing in the future of our children, ensuring they have the tools they need to succeed.”
Students have echoed these sentiments, with many crediting the holiday coaching classes for their academic achievements. One beneficiary shared, “Before attending the coaching classes, I struggled with several subjects. Thanks to the patient teachers and the support from Senator Alli, I was able to improve significantly, and having my WAEC fees covered was a huge relief.”
Another student expressed hope for the future, inspired by Senator Alli’s example. “Senator Alli has shown us what it means to be a leader who genuinely cares about his community. I hope to one day give back in the same way.”
As the program continues to grow, its impact on the lives of students in Oyo South becomes increasingly evident. The success stories emerging from this initiative are a testament to Senator Alli’s commitment to education and his broader vision for community development.
His efforts serve as an inspiration, demonstrating the lasting value of investing in the education and future of young people.
