In a bid to alleviate poverty and drive economic empowerment, Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has rolled out an empowerment initiative that benefits constituents across the nine local governments in Oyo South Senatorial District.
This was revealed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, which was shared with journalists on Wednesday.
The ongoing initiative, aimed at providing financial support and skills for sustainable livelihoods, saw Senator Alli distribute Point of Sale (POS) terminals, accessories, and N50,000 start-up capital to help beneficiaries launch their businesses as POS agents. This effort is part of a larger programme tagged “Capacity Building and Skill Acquisition on Poverty Alleviation in Oyo South Senatorial District.”
Representing the senator, Mr. Ayo Adedokun reiterated the senator’s commitment to empowering his constituents through practical, sustainable solutions that foster long-term financial independence. He emphasized that the initiative not only provides beneficiaries with business tools but also contributes to the overall economic growth of the district.
“We are committed to ensuring our people are not left behind in the digital economy.
“Through this POS scheme, our constituents will gain financial independence while contributing to the community’s development,” Senator Alli said.
Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, the Oyo South Senatorial Chairman of the APC, highlighted the growing demand for financial services within local communities, describing the POS business as a viable venture. He urged beneficiaries to maximize this opportunity, noting the potential for transforming their financial circumstances.
“This is more than just empowerment; it’s a lifeline,” Olaoya remarked. “This initiative can change your financial future, so make the most of it.”
Echoing similar sentiments, former Commissioner for Establishments and Training, Hon. Jelili Agboola, commended the beneficiaries for taking part in the programme. He stressed that the initiative opens new doors to financial stability, urging them to take full advantage of the opportunity presented.
Alhaji Ghandi Omilabu, an APC chieftain, lauded the programme as a significant empowerment effort, comparing it favorably to other schemes. He expressed optimism that the beneficiaries now had a clear pathway to economic independence.
Several beneficiaries shared their gratitude for the programme, acknowledging Senator Alli’s dedication to uplifting the community. Mrs. Mulikat Ayandeji, from Ibarapa East Local Government, described the initiative as a vital tool for enhancing her livelihood. “This empowerment will help me improve my financial situation, and I am deeply grateful to Senator Alli for this opportunity,” she said.
Mr. Ibrahim Bolarinwa from Ido Local Government also praised the initiative, noting that it would significantly improve his financial standing. He expressed appreciation for Senator Alli’s unwavering commitment to the needs of his constituents.
Similarly, Mrs. Ajoke Wahab from Ibadan North Local Government applauded the senator’s vision, stating, “This is a life-changing initiative that will positively impact my life. I commend Senator Alli for his dedication to empowering our community.”
As the programme continues, more constituents are expected to benefit, further cementing Senator Alli’s reputation as a leader focused on practical solutions for poverty alleviation and economic growth.
