FLORENCE, Italy, Dec 1 (Reuters) – The Serie A clash between Fiorentina and Inter Milan was abruptly halted on Sunday after Fiorentina midfielder Edoardo Bove collapsed on the pitch in the 17th minute. The 22-year-old was immediately attended to by medical personnel and transported to Careggi Hospital near Stadio Artemio Franchi in Florence.
Sky Sport Italia reported that Bove, who is on loan at Fiorentina from AS Roma, had regained consciousness and was breathing on his own by the time he reached the hospital.
The incident occurred as play was paused for a potential VAR review of a disallowed Lautaro Martínez goal. Witnesses said Bove appeared to be bending down to remove his boot when he suddenly collapsed, prompting concern from players and fans alike.
Fiorentina players formed a protective ring around Bove as medics treated him on the field. After he was taken away by ambulance, the referee instructed both teams to leave the pitch and return to the dressing rooms.
A Serie A spokesperson later confirmed that the match had been suspended and would be rescheduled to a later date.
The football community is anxiously awaiting further updates on Bove’s condition, with Fiorentina fans and officials expressing relief at reports of his stabilized state.
