In a strategic move to enhance food production and alleviate rural poverty, Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC–Oyo South) has rolled out a large-scale agricultural intervention programme targeting farmers across four local government areas within his senatorial district.
According to a statement from the Senator’s Media Office, the initiative—flagged off in Eruwa ahead of the planting season—focused on the distribution of high-yield seedlings, including maize, beans, tomatoes, and yam. The gesture is designed to boost farm productivity and ensure long-term food security in Oyo State.
Beneficiaries of the programme span Ido, Ibarapa East, Ibarapa Central, and Ibarapa North Local Government Areas, marking a significant milestone in the Senator’s rural empowerment agenda.
Representing Senator Alli at the distribution exercise, Mr. Ayo Adedokun and Mr. Gbenga Elegbede emphasized that the effort is part of a broader vision to support farmers with sustainable resources that reduce production costs and increase yields.
“This is one of many interventions designed to empower our farming communities, strengthen food systems, and stimulate local economies,” they stated.
The initiative was warmly received by community stakeholders and political leaders across the benefiting LGAs. Elder Dayo Adeola, a key APC leader and member of the Ibarapa APC G-9, commended Senator Alli for his sustained grassroots engagement and consistent delivery of democratic dividends.
“Unlike some of his predecessors, Senator Alli is a visible, proactive leader who remains deeply connected to the needs of his people,” Adeola said.
Local farmers and community leaders also expressed gratitude for the intervention. Alhaji Jimoh Luqmon noted that the timely provision of seedlings would significantly cut down on farm input costs. Mr. Jimoh Azeez expressed hope for increased harvests, while Mr. Oluwaseun Alabi highlighted the initiative’s potential to improve food supply and boost household incomes.
The agricultural support programme is part of Senator Alli’s legislative priorities focused on economic empowerment and sustainable development, especially in rural areas.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent community figures, including Apostle S.A. Aderounmu, Chief T.A.A. Adenrele, Chief Francis Babalola, and other leaders from
