In a sweeping effort to uplift communities in Oyo South Senatorial District, Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC–Oyo South) has received wide commendation for facilitating a free medical outreach and installing solar-powered streetlights in underserved areas.
Thousands of residents in Ibadan North-West Local Government Area benefited from the healthcare intervention, which was held at the Primary Health Centre on Akintola Street, Queen Cinema area. The outreach delivered vital medical services—ranging from malaria treatment and blood pressure checks to eye screenings, dental care, drug distribution, and general consultations—directly to the community.
Facilitated by Senator Alli and sponsored through a partnership between the Federal Government and the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), the initiative was designed to improve grassroots access to healthcare and reduce the burden of untreated illnesses.
In a statement issued on Friday, the senator’s media office emphasized that the program was part of a broader strategy to promote wellness and healthcare equity across the district.
Beneficiaries such as Nurudeen Raji, Amida Hazmat, and Hammed Alimi praised the outreach as a transformative gesture, urging other political leaders to emulate Senator Alli’s proactive, people-centered approach.
Dr. Gafar Amao, the NPHCDA’s Lead Medical Officer, and Dr. Folashade Alli described the intervention as timely, noting its contribution to boosting public health awareness. Both doctors also called for more investment in healthcare infrastructure and encouraged Nigerians to enroll in available health insurance schemes, lamenting that less than 5% of the population currently benefit from such coverage.
In addition to healthcare, Senator Alli is also earning praise for enhancing public safety and community development through the installation of solar streetlights in several areas, including Aba-Alamu/Bembo-Logudu-Olosun Community—comprising 32 zones—and the Olowo Kekere/Bashorun/New Bodija axis.
Residents said the solar-powered lights have significantly improved night-time visibility and deterred criminal activities in their neighborhoods. These installations build on earlier projects in Ibarapa and the over 2,500 solar streetlights already deployed across the nine local governments in the senatorial district.
Senator Alli reaffirmed his commitment to developmental projects that directly impact the lives of his constituents, vowing to expand collaborations that strengthen healthcare access and improve security in Oyo South.
