As Nigeria marks another Democracy Day, Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC–Oyo South) has reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to the principles of democratic governance, national unity, and participatory leadership.
In a statement issued by his media office on Thursday in Ibadan, Senator Alli described June 12 as a defining moment in Nigeria’s political history—a day that symbolizes the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of Nigerians who fought bravely for democratic freedom, particularly during the 1993 presidential election struggle.
“June 12 remains a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by heroes who stood against tyranny and chose the ballot over the bullet. Their courage must continue to inspire us all,” he said.
The lawmaker emphasized that the gains of democracy must not be taken for granted. He pledged to continue championing legislative efforts that protect civil liberties, promote institutional integrity, and deepen citizen participation in governance.
“Our democracy must reflect the will and voice of the people. As legislators, it is our duty to make laws that uphold justice, ensure equity, and advance inclusive development.”
Senator Alli also used the occasion to extend his heartfelt congratulations to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his leadership vision and policy direction aimed at steering the country toward economic revitalization, social stability, youth empowerment, and national cohesion.
“President Tinubu’s purposeful leadership in these challenging times deserves commendation. His administration’s bold steps toward economic recovery and national rebirth offer renewed hope for the Nigerian people,” Alli said.
Reflecting on the nation’s democratic trajectory, the senator noted that Nigeria has reached a critical phase in its political development—one that demands not only strong leadership but also active citizenship and shared responsibility.
He called on Nigerians from all walks of life to recommit themselves to the ideals of peace, equity, justice, and unity, stressing that national progress can only be achieved through collective resolve.
“We must unite across ethnic, religious, and political lines to build a nation that works for everyone. The promise of democracy lies in our ability to stand together and pursue the common good,” he added.
Senator Alli concluded his Democracy Day message with a note of optimism, urging Nigerians to embrace patriotism, uphold democratic values, and work together toward a brighter, more inclusive future.
“Let us use this Democracy Day as a moment for national reflection and renewed hope. Together, we can build a Nigeria that meets the aspirations of every citizen.”
