Senator (Dr.) Sharafadeen Alli (APC–Oyo South) has inaugurated solar panel-powered food dryers in the Okolo area of Eruwa, headquarters of Ibarapa East Local Government, as part of efforts to strengthen agricultural productivity and rural enterprise.
The intervention, facilitated by the lawmaker, is designed to curb post-harvest losses and improve food preservation through renewable energy-driven drying technology. The facility is expected to support local farmers and agro-processors by providing a more efficient and sustainable method of processing farm produce.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Senator Alli said the project aligns with his broader commitment to empowering rural communities and enhancing food security across Oyo South Senatorial District. He noted that access to modern agricultural tools remains essential for boosting output, increasing incomes and ensuring long-term economic stability.
According to him, the solar-powered dryers will enable farmers to process cassava, maize, pepper and other produce more efficiently, thereby improving product quality and increasing market value. He described the initiative as a practical empowerment strategy aimed at delivering measurable impact at the grassroots.
The senator urged beneficiaries to take ownership of the facility by ensuring proper maintenance and optimal utilisation, assuring them of his continued support for people-oriented and development-driven projects within the district.
Community leaders who attended the event praised the initiative, describing it as timely and transformative. They noted that beyond reducing waste, the project would stimulate local agro-processing, generate employment opportunities for youths and women, and strengthen the rural economy.
Farmers expressed appreciation to Senator Alli for bringing sustainable innovation closer to their communities, pledging to make effective use of the solar dryers to enhance productivity and livelihoods.
