Political Realignment in Oyo as Ajadi Quits PDP, Hints at Fresh Political Journey

A prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has formally resigned from the party, citing ongoing internal crises at the national level and the need to pursue his political ambition on a different platform.

Ajadi disclosed that the unresolved leadership disputes within the PDP could pose future legal and political complications to his aspiration, prompting his decision to part ways with the party.

His resignation was conveyed in a letter dated May 6, 2026, addressed to the Oyo State Chairman of the PDP at the party’s Secretariat in Molete, Ibadan, and routed through the Ward 8 Chairman in Osengere, Egbeda Local Government Area.

The development is already generating attention within Oyo State’s political landscape, with observers describing it as a significant shift capable of influencing future political alignments in the state.

“I am writing to officially notify you of my decision to resign from the membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), effective immediately,” Ajadi stated in the letter.

The politician, widely known for his grassroots engagements, youth empowerment initiatives, and philanthropic activities across Oyo State, explained that the decision followed wide consultations and deep reflection on his political future and ideological direction.

“This decision comes after extensive consultations and careful reflection on my political direction, particularly in relation to the broader vision of unity, progress, and sustainable leadership which I remain fully committed to pursuing,” he said.

Ajadi emphasised that his resignation was not borne out of personal grievances or political rivalry, but rather from a strategic desire to avoid uncertainties that could hinder his political ambition in the future.

Despite leaving the party, he expressed appreciation to the PDP leadership at the national, state, and ward levels for the opportunities and support extended to him during his membership.

“I sincerely appreciate the national leadership of the PDP for the platform and opportunity given to me to pursue my political aspiration. I also acknowledge the support, guidance, and cooperation I received from the state leadership and the ward structure throughout my journey in the party,” he stated.

Reaffirming his belief in politics as a platform for service, Ajadi maintained that his commitment to democratic values and nation-building remains unwavering.
“Politics, for me, has always been a calling to serve humanity, not a contest driven by personal ego,” he declared.

Although he did not reveal his next political destination, sources close to the politician disclosed that consultations are ongoing with stakeholders and associates across various political platforms regarding his next move.

Political analysts believe Ajadi’s resignation could reshape the political equation in Oyo State ahead of future elections, especially considering his growing support base among youths and grassroots mobilisers.

In a conciliatory tone, Ajadi praised PDP members for their steadfastness and patriotism, expressing hope that the party would continue to contribute positively to Nigeria’s democratic development.

“I salute the resilience, courage, and patriotism of all PDP members and pray that the party continues to play its role in strengthening democracy and promoting good governance in Nigeria,” he added.

He concluded by stressing that he was exiting the party without resentment, describing his experience in the PDP as rewarding and memorable.

“As I begin a new phase in my political journey, I do so with gratitude, without bitterness or regret, and with deep appreciation to every member of the PDP family who made my stay in the party worthwhile,” Ajadi said.
