In a significant move to bolster the communication apparatus of the Olubadan’s Palace, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Akinloye Owolabi Ige Olakunlehin I, the newly crowned paramount ruler of Ibadanland, has appointed Olugbemiga Solomon Ayoade, a distinguished former chairman of the Oyo State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), as his Chief Press Secretary.
The appointment, which takes effect immediately, was officially conveyed in a letter dated August 29, 2024. The letter was signed by Prince Olasunmbo Owolabi Olakulehin, representing the royal family, underlining the significance of this role as the Olubadan continues to shape his reign with trusted and experienced hands.
Olugbemiga Ayoade, a native of the Taiwo Ariyibi Dynasty, hails from the historic Eleruko compound in Oke Ofa Baba Isale, Ibadan. His academic credentials are both extensive and impressive, beginning with a Diploma in Mass Communication from the Ibadan Polytechnic. He furthered his education at the prestigious University of Ibadan, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Cultural Anthropology in 1989, followed by a Master’s degree in Sociology in 1995.
Ayoade’s professional journey is a testament to his dedication to the field of journalism and public service. He served the Oyo State Civil Service with distinction, retiring as the Director of Public Enlightenment and Mass Mobilisation within the Ministry of Information, Culture, and Tourism. His tenure was marked by innovative public engagement and a commitment to transparency and effective communication.
Within the journalism community, Ayoade is revered as a core professional. His leadership roles in the NUJ are numerous, having served as Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Vice-Chairman, and ultimately, Chairman of the Oyo State NUJ Chapter. His influence extended beyond the state level as he played a vital role nationally, particularly as a member of the seven-man committee tasked with developing an Insurance Policy for journalists in Nigeria. Currently, Ayoade chairs the Ethics and Disciplinary Committee of the Oyo State NUJ, where his guidance continues to shape the standards of the profession.
As he steps into his new position of trust and influence as Chief Press Secretary, Oba Olakunlehin I charged Ayoade with the critical task of advancing the unity and progress of Ibadanland.
