Mixed Fortunes for British Players as Draper Exits, Doubles Teams Advance at Rolex Paris Masters 2024

Singles
Jack Draper’s impressive run at the Rolex Paris Masters came to a close in the third round, as the British No.1 fell to Australia’s ninth seed, Alex de Minaur, in a hard-fought match (5-7, 6-2, 6-3). Draper, fresh from his Erste Bank Open title win, put up a strong fight, claiming the first set and pushing De Minaur with powerful groundstrokes and aggressive plays.

Though Draper initially gained momentum and secured the first set, he couldn’t maintain control against the world No.10, whose resilience and fitness shone through in the last two sets. Despite rallying to level the decider at 2-2, Draper’s 11 unforced errors ultimately tipped the balance, allowing De Minaur to seize victory and book a quarter-final clash with Holger Rune. Draper’s loss marks the end of a breakthrough season for the 22-year-old, who reached a career-high ranking of No.14 and claimed his first two ATP titles.

Meanwhile, Wimbledon champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara overcame a close match against Marin Cilic and Ivan Dodig, securing their spot with a 6-3, 6-7(5), 10-8 victory.
