In response to widespread rumors claiming that Senator Rochas Okorocha, former Governor of Imo State, had passed away, his aide, Ebere Nzeworji, has firmly dispelled the allegations, assuring the public that Okorocha is alive, well, and actively engaging in his regular duties.
In a statement released Thursday morning from Abuja, Nzeworji clarified that “the immediate past Senator representing Imo West Senatorial District is hale and hearty.” He condemned the false reports, explaining that “a baseless message alleging Okorocha’s death in a London hospital began circulating on social media on Wednesday evening, November 6.”
Setting the record straight, Nzeworji highlighted that Okorocha was at his Unity House office in Garki, Abuja, around the time the false rumor started spreading. Additionally, he noted that Okorocha had recently returned from Imo State, where he attended the funeral of the esteemed elder statesman, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, on November 1. Following the ceremony, Okorocha also hosted the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, and other dignitaries at his Spibat residence in Owerri.
Expressing dismay at the intentions behind the false information, Nzeworji stated, “It’s troubling to consider what drives those who spread such unfounded stories. Senator Okorocha has a reputation for patriotism, having served with distinction at both state and federal levels, forging friendships and connections nationwide and internationally. He has always shown genuine concern for others’ well-being and never wished harm on anyone.”
In his closing remarks, Nzeworji called for public support to counter misinformation: “We urge all well-meaning Nigerians and members of the global community to disregard this fake news and rest assured that His Excellency, Senator Rochas Okorocha, is healthy and in good spirits.”
