Araromi Market Fire Tragedy: Senator Alli Calls for Safety Reforms, Offers Support to Victims

Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC-Oyo South) has extended his heartfelt sympathy to traders affected by the catastrophic fire that ravaged the Araromi Spare Parts Market at Agodi-Gate, Ibadan. The blaze, which caused the loss of goods and property valued at millions of naira, left many devastated.

In a statement released on Saturday by his Special Adviser on Media, Akeem Abas, Senator Alli described the incident as a monumental tragedy that not only impacted the traders but also dealt a significant blow to the state’s economic activities.

The lawmaker lauded the swift response of the Oyo State Fire Service and other emergency agencies, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the cause of the inferno and prevent future occurrences.

Senator Alli urged the Oyo State Government and philanthropic individuals to provide immediate assistance to the affected traders, helping them recover from their losses and rebuild their businesses.

Addressing fire safety concerns, the senator called on traders to adopt precautionary measures, including proper handling of flammable materials, adherence to fire safety protocols, and routine maintenance of electrical installations in the market. He highlighted the importance of equipping stalls with fire extinguishers, maintaining accessible emergency exits, and organizing regular fire safety training for traders.

He also appealed to market leaders to enforce compliance with safety regulations and collaborate with relevant authorities for periodic inspections to minimize fire risks.

While expressing his prayers and solidarity with the victims, Senator Alli reaffirmed his dedication to promoting fire safety initiatives and supporting policies aimed at protecting lives and property in markets across Oyo State.
