DMM Mourns Veteran Journalist Lekan Alabi, Hails His Enduring Legacy in Journalism, Yoruba Culture

…Describes His Death as a Great Loss to Oyo, Nigeria

The Divine Mandate Movement (DMM) has expressed profound grief over the passing of veteran journalist, renowned author, public relations expert and cultural icon, Oloye Lekan Alabi, describing his death as a monumental loss to Oyo State, the media profession and the nation at large.

In a statement issued on Saturday and signed by its Chairman, Comrade Raji Adebayo, the movement said it received the news of Alabi’s demise with deep sadness, noting that his remarkable life was dedicated to the pursuit of truth, excellence in journalism, the promotion of Yoruba cultural heritage and the preservation of history for future generations.

According to the statement, the late media icon carved an enviable niche for himself through decades of distinguished service as a journalist, accomplished author, public relations practitioner, public affairs analyst and mentor, earning the admiration and respect of colleagues, traditional institutions and the wider society.

The movement noted that Oloye Alabi’s contributions extended beyond journalism, saying he was one of the foremost advocates of Yoruba culture whose writings, lectures and public engagements helped preserve the rich history, traditions and values of Ibadanland and Yorubaland.

DMM further described the late elder statesman as a symbol of professionalism, integrity and intellectual excellence, whose commitment to ethical journalism and national development inspired generations of media practitioners and communication professionals.

“Oloye Lekan Alabi devoted his entire life to the service of humanity through journalism, public relations and cultural advocacy. His passion for truth, his love for Yoruba history and his commitment to preserving our cultural identity distinguished him as one of Nigeria’s finest communicators,” the statement read.

The movement added that the vacuum created by his passing would be difficult to fill, describing him as a repository of knowledge, a bridge between generations and a respected voice whose counsel and wealth of experience positively influenced countless individuals and institutions.

“His demise is not only a loss to the media industry but also to Ibadanland, Oyo State and Nigeria. His legacy of excellence, humility, wisdom and selfless service will continue to inspire present and future generations,” the statement added.

The Divine Mandate Movement extended its heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late journalist, the people of Ibadanland, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), members of the journalism profession, friends and associates of the deceased, as well as the Oyo State Government.

The movement prayed that Almighty God would grant Oloye Lekan Alabi eternal rest and comfort his family and loved ones with the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

It also urged media practitioners and younger generations to uphold the values of integrity, professionalism and dedication exemplified by the late veteran journalist, noting that his life’s work remains a shining example of service, excellence and commitment to societal development.
