Oyo NAWOJ Amplifies Global Call to End Gender-Based Violence

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Oyo State Chapter, has joined the global movement to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, observed annually from November 25 to December 10.

In a statement issued by the Chairperson, Mrs. Omolola Alamu, the association emphasized its commitment to the campaign’s theme, “Orange the World: End Violence Against Women Now!” This year’s focus highlights the urgent need to address the widespread issue of gender-based violence, which impacts millions of women and girls worldwide.

“As journalists, we understand our pivotal role in shaping narratives and driving social transformation,” Mrs. Alamu stated. She called on governments, policymakers, and stakeholders to take decisive action by:

Enacting and strengthening laws to prevent and combat gender-based violence.

Increasing financial support for programs that address this societal menace.

Ensuring survivors have access to justice, support services, and reparations.

The association further urged individuals and institutions to break the silence, dismantle patriarchal norms, and advocate for a safer, more equitable society.

Through this campaign, Oyo NAWOJ reaffirms its dedication to using journalism as a tool to amplify marginalized voices and push for systemic change, ensuring a future free of violence and discrimination against women and girls.
