The Eniosa-Onibepe Community Development Association in Ibadan, Oyo State, has set a remarkable example of recognizing and rewarding selfless contributions to grassroots development. In a grand ceremony scheduled for Saturday, December 14, 2024, at the Apple Gbangba Event Center, six distinguished individuals, including Chief Ademola Babalola, Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), will be honored for their outstanding impact on the community.
The event, organized as part of the outgoing executives’ end-of-tenure celebrations, underscores the importance of grassroots development and the role of individual contributions in driving societal progress. Leading the association during its two-term, four-year tenure is Pastor Adetayo Musa Adeoye, who, alongside his team, has overseen significant community initiatives that have transformed Eniosa-Onibepe into a model of development and collaboration.
The Grassroots and Development Journalists Association of Nigeria (GDJAN) has lauded the initiative, describing it as a commendable effort to motivate more leaders and stakeholders to invest in grassroots development. In a statement by its Secretary, Mrs. Ramat Alade, GDJAN expressed admiration for the outgoing executives’ decision to celebrate individuals who have distinguished themselves in service to humanity.
“This recognition is not just a celebration of accomplishments but also a motivational tool for others—business leaders, politicians, and government officials—to contribute meaningfully to their communities. It also encourages those already making a difference to continue their good work,” Alade said.
She added that the gesture reflects a departure from the common narrative of celebrating individuals only after their demise, stressing that honoring people while they are alive inspires greater commitment to societal development.
Chief Ademola Babalola, one of the honorees, was praised for his exceptional leadership within the Oyo NUJ and his tireless efforts to uplift journalism and community development in Ibadan and Oyo State. “Though quiet in his approach, Chief Babalola’s impactful contributions continue to garner widespread recognition,” GDJAN noted.
The event will also celebrate other notable figures, including:
Chief Benedict Akika: Agbaakin of Olorunda Abaa and Mayegun of Akobo Land, recognized for his philanthropic initiatives and community projects.
Mr. Oladapo Kazeem: Chief Executive of Berrymist Lounge, Osogbo, honored for his support to grassroots initiatives.
Mrs. Olayinka Egunjobi: Chairperson of the End-of-Tenure Committee, celebrated for her organizational excellence.
Mr. Dada Olugbenga Abioye: Chairman of Isokan Community, Eniosa-Onibepe, commended for his leadership in fostering unity.
Mrs. Ojo Nelson Antonia: Member of the Electoral Committee, applauded for her dedication to community service.
Under the stewardship of Pastor Adeoye, Eniosa-Onibepe has witnessed the implementation of development projects that prioritize the well-being of its residents. GDJAN emphasized the rarity of such selfless leadership in today’s society and commended the outgoing executives for their vision and determination to leave behind a legacy of progress.
“We have closely monitored your contributions and are inspired by your dedication. Your decision to celebrate these community leaders further highlights your commitment to fostering growth and collaboration,” the association remarked.
The award ceremony, tagged The Chronicles 2024, marks a fitting end to the tenure of the outgoing executives. It sets a precedent for future administrations to prioritize not just governance but also the recognition of individuals who contribute to the collective good of society.
As the community gathers to celebrate these grassroots champions, the event serves as a call to action for others to emulate their dedication and invest in sustainable development initiatives that uplift the underprivileged and create thriving communities.
