…Promises Modern Farm Equipment, Improved Seeds, Cooperative Loans for Farmers
The Oyo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke (FCA), has pledged to tackle the prolonged electricity challenges confronting communities across Ibarapa through the development of solar-powered electricity infrastructure.
Adegoke made the promise while addressing residents, traditional leaders, party stakeholders and supporters in Igbo-Ora during his thank-you visit to Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Local Government Areas.
He said that, if elected governor in 2027, his administration would pursue the development of a solar farm dedicated to supplying electricity to Ibarapa, with the objective of improving power availability across the zone.
According to him, the proposed initiative would provide an alternative source of electricity for the area and reduce its dependence on what he described as unreliable supply from the national grid.
Adegoke said reliable electricity would also support local businesses, agricultural processing, education and other economic activities, while contributing to improved security within rural communities.
The ADC candidate linked rural electrification to broader security measures, arguing that better-lit communities and stronger grassroots governance could improve the ability of residents and authorities to monitor their environments.
He also reiterated his commitment to strengthening local government administration, saying greater autonomy for councils would enable them to respond more effectively to the needs of their communities.
Adegoke said traditional institutions would also have a role to play in grassroots security, with traditional rulers expected to contribute more effectively to the protection and administration of their domains.
The ADC candidate also promised to give agriculture a central position in his proposed development agenda for Ibarapa, a zone widely associated with farming and livestock production.
He pledged to provide farmers with modern agricultural equipment and improved, high-yielding seeds to increase productivity and strengthen the economic value of farming.
Adegoke, who said he was trained in Agricultural Economics at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, assured farmers that his academic background had given him an understanding of some of the challenges confronting the agricultural sector.
“I was trained at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, as an Agric-Economist, and I understand the needs of our farmers. We will provide the necessary resources and support to improve their productivity,” he said.
He further promised to facilitate access to agricultural credit through farmers’ cooperative societies, saying affordable loans would enable farmers to expand their operations, acquire inputs and invest in modern production methods.
Speaking earlier, the ADC Youth Leader in Ibarapa Central, Mr Ayodele Olanlere, highlighted some of the priorities of young people in the area.
Olanlere called for a stable electricity supply and the creation of more economic opportunities capable of reducing unemployment and enabling young people to become self-reliant.
He also appealed for improved healthcare support and free education opportunities for youths in the area.
The youth leader expressed appreciation to Adegoke for his pledge to address the electricity crisis, expressing optimism that the proposed rural electrification initiative would be implemented if the ADC candidate is elected.
The engagement formed part of Adegoke’s continuing grassroots consultations and thank-you visits across Oyo State ahead of the 2027 governorship election, during which he has been outlining his proposed programmes on infrastructure, agriculture, electricity, youth empowerment and local government administration.
