Debo Adeoye, Ibadan, Nigeria
In every generation, a leader emerges whose experience, character, and vision align perfectly with the needs of his time. In the 2025 Oyo State NUJ Chairmanship election, that leader is Comrade Raji Adebayo, the flagbearer of the Divine Mandate Team — a man whose journalistic journey, spanning decades of commitment, courage, and competence, positions him as the best choice to lead the Union into a new era of progress and accountability.
A Seasoned Professional with Deep Roots in Journalism
Comrade Raji Adebayo is a proud alumnus of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, where he earned both his OND and Higher National Diploma (HND) in Mass Communication — credentials that laid the foundation for his robust career in journalism.
He began his professional journey at the legendary National Concord Newspaper in Lagos — one of Nigeria’s most respected media institutions — where he honed his reporting skills under some of the finest editors the country ever produced. His career has since spanned several reputable national dailies including The Herald, Encounter Newspapers, National Daily, National Mirror, The Moment, Daily Newswatch, and currently, the Daily Independent Newspapers, where he serves as the Oyo State Correspondent.
Proven Leadership and Service
Beyond his newsroom achievements, Adebayo’s leadership pedigree is both tested and trusted. He is a former Assistant Secretary of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State, and a former Acting Secretary of the Property and Environment Writers Association of Nigeria (PEWAN) in Lagos.
He also served meritoriously as the immediate past Chairman of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ, Oyo State Council, where he led with exceptional diplomacy, inclusiveness, and transparency — qualities that endeared him to both veterans and younger colleagues across the Union.
Under his leadership, the Correspondents’ Chapel became more vibrant, united, and professionally active — a feat that speaks volumes about his managerial competence and passion for the welfare of journalists.
Charisma, Competence, and Character
A man of humility and discipline, Raji Adebayo commands respect within and beyond the journalism profession. He has covered several beats across politics, business, environment, and sports, building solid relationships with professionals, policymakers, and stakeholders in both the public and private sectors.
A charismatic journalist and skilled negotiator, he believes that leadership must be anchored on truth, transparency, and teamwork — values that define his personality and drive his commitment to a better NUJ.
Notably, Adebayo is also the current champion of the Oyo NUJ/SWAN Table Tennis Competition, demonstrating his belief in work-life balance and his passion for promoting physical and mental wellness among journalists.
Vision: A Responsive, Transparent, and Progressive NUJ
Comrade Raji Adebayo’s vision is clear: to build a responsive, transparent, and efficient NUJ Council that truly prioritizes the welfare, professional growth, and digital transformation of every journalist in Oyo State.
His five-point core agenda encapsulates the heart of his mission:
1. Welfare First

- Introduction of biannual welfare packages for members.
