Senator Sharafadeen Alli (APC–Oyo South) has reaffirmed his commitment to addressing critical developmental challenges confronting communities in Ibarapa Central and Ibarapa North Federal Constituency.
The senator gave the assurance during a high-level engagement with traditional rulers from Ibarapa Central and North, alongside executives of the Igboora Progress Union (IPU), at the palace of the Olu of Igboora.
Key issues discussed at the meeting included electricity supply, agricultural development, security, youth and artisan empowerment, the strengthening of traditional institutions, the abandoned Igangan General Hospital, and the proposed Federal Medical Centre for the Ibarapa zone.
Senator Alli disclosed that the bill seeking the establishment of a Federal Medical Centre in the area has successfully passed all legislative stages at the National Assembly and is currently awaiting presidential assent. He commended Reps Muraina Saubana and Bayo Adepoju for their collaboration in advancing the initiative.
He assured stakeholders that the project had reached an advanced stage and expressed confidence that, once approved, the medical centre would significantly improve healthcare delivery across Ibarapa communities.
On infrastructure development, Senator Alli revealed that construction work has commenced on the Badagry–Sokoto Expressway segment linking Igboora. He pledged to sustain engagement with the Minister of Works to ensure further improvements on critical road networks within the constituency.
Addressing persistent electricity challenges in Ibarapa North, the senator said he had engaged the Minister of Power, noting that technical issues were responsible for the current situation. He assured residents of imminent intervention to restore power supply.
According to him, noticeable improvements are expected within the next six months, stressing that continuous follow-up would guarantee sustainable solutions beyond initial government timelines.
Earlier, the Interim President of the Igboora Progress Union, Pastor Alex Oladeji—represented by the Vice President I, Rev. Sanya Akinlade—outlined the community’s pressing concerns, particularly in the areas of power supply, road infrastructure and healthcare facilities.
He appealed to Senator Alli to intensify efforts on the Igboora–Iseyin federal road, the Federal Medical Centre project and other priority developmental needs of the area.
In a separate engagement, Senator Alli also met with farmers, community leaders and APC stalwarts from the seven principal towns in the constituency. Discussions focused on agricultural innovation, empowerment and strategies to enhance food security.
The senator announced a personally facilitated agricultural empowerment initiative, unveiled by agricultural expert, Gbenro Abraham. The phased programme, he said, is designed to target women, youths and men, with the aim of boosting productivity, creating employment and strengthening the local economy.
