…Promises to Strengthen LAUTECH Iseyin Campus, Expand Healthcare and Economic Opportunities
The Oyo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke (FCA), has welcomed hundreds of defectors from the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Ogo-Oluwa and Surulere Local Government Areas into the ADC, assuring them of equal opportunities within the party.
The defectors, who joined the ADC during Adegoke’s thank-you visit to the Ogbomoso axis of the state, pledged their loyalty to the party and promised to mobilise support for its candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Apostle Taiwo Olaleru and Alhaji Bashiru Ganiyu said their decision to leave the APM followed what they described as their disappointment with the party’s political direction and leadership.
Olaleru said the defectors had decided to identify with the ADC after becoming convinced that the party offered a better platform for political participation and development.
“We have discovered that we need to move to a better party, and we see the ADC and its governorship candidate, Olooye Adegoke, as a place we should move to and the person we can trust,” he said.
Ganiyu, another leader of the defectors, said they were optimistic that their decision to join the ADC would translate into greater dividends of democracy for their communities.
He added that they had followed Adegoke’s activities and philanthropic interventions and were convinced that he possessed the capacity to lead Oyo State.
“We have also been hearing about Olooye Adegoke and his philanthropic efforts. We are pleased to be in his party and we pray that his aspiration to govern the state will be crowned with victory,” Ganiyu said.
Receiving the new members, Adegoke assured them that they would be treated fairly and given equal opportunities to contribute to the growth and success of the ADC.
He urged the defectors not to regard their entry into the party merely as a political realignment but as a commitment to building a stronger political organisation capable of winning the 2027 election and delivering good governance.
The ADC candidate also called on them to work closely with existing party members and leaders, stressing that unity, discipline and grassroots mobilisation would be crucial to the party’s electoral success.
Earlier on Friday in Iseyin, Adegoke unveiled part of his proposed healthcare agenda for Oke-Ogun, promising to establish a Specialist Hospital in the zone if elected governor of Oyo State.
He said the proposed medical facility would be designed to address some of the specialised healthcare needs of residents and reduce the burden of travelling outside the zone for advanced medical treatment.
“I have the plan to establish a Specialist Hospital in the Oke-Ogun area of Oyo State to take care of the health needs of the people,” Adegoke said.
According to him, the proposed hospital would have implications beyond healthcare delivery, as its establishment would stimulate infrastructure development, create employment opportunities and boost economic activities within the zone.
He said the project would form part of his broader development agenda aimed at ensuring that people living outside Ibadan and other major urban centres also have access to quality public services.
Adegoke also pledged to give greater attention to the Iseyin campus of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), particularly the institution’s College of Agricultural Sciences and Renewable Natural Resources located in the Oke-Ogun axis.
He said his administration would seek to strengthen the campus and harness its potential to contribute more effectively to agricultural development, skills acquisition, research and the wider economy of the zone.
Adegoke noted that Oke-Ogun remained strategically important to Oyo State because of its agricultural potential, stressing that investment in education, healthcare, infrastructure and human capital would be necessary to unlock the region’s full economic potential.
The ADC candidate’s engagements across Ogo-Oluwa, Surulere, Ogbomoso and Iseyin form part of his ongoing statewide consultations and thank-you visits as the party begins to consolidate its structures and grassroots support ahead of the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
