…Pledges 10 Township, Inner Roads Per LG in First 100 Days
The Oyo State governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Olooye Adegboyega Taofeek Adegoke, has extended an olive branch to all aspirants who contested the party’s governorship primary with him, urging them to close ranks and work together towards securing victory for the party in the 2027 election.
Adegoke, who stressed that no individual could win the governorship election alone, called on aggrieved members and supporters to sheath their swords, embrace reconciliation and unite behind the party’s candidate.
He made the appeal on Friday while addressing ADC leaders, candidates and supporters in Saki during his thank-you visit to the Saki West, Saki East and Atisbo Federal Constituency.
The governorship candidate said his commitment to reconciliation had been demonstrated by his efforts to personally reach out to some of the aspirants who contested the primary, including Chief Bisi Ilaka.
According to him, shortly after emerging as the party’s governorship candidate, he contacted Ilaka by telephone and invited him to join hands with him in the task of winning the governorship election.
“I want reconciliation so that we can move forward. Those who are angry should sheath their swords. They should let us work together, hand in hand, like the symbol of our party.
“Nobody can do it alone. We must work together to achieve victory. Let us talk to one another and, when we win, we will all enjoy the dividends of our hard work,” Adegoke said.
He explained that his approach to reconciliation was not limited to former contestants but extended to party leaders, members and stakeholders across the political divide.
Adegoke said his objective was to build a broad coalition capable of bringing about meaningful development in Oyo State, stressing that victory at the polls would require the collective efforts of all members and supporters.
He said: “When I won the governorship ticket, I didn’t just sit down as a candidate; I approached our leaders for reconciliation. I talked to them that we should work together, we should cooperate so that development will come to Oyo State.
“I am talking to people in our party and even in other political parties to join hands with me as we go for the governorship election in February next year.”
Beyond his call for political reconciliation, Adegoke also unveiled part of his proposed infrastructure agenda, promising to repair at least 10 township and inner roads in each of the 33 local government areas of the state within his first 100 days in office if elected.
The pledge translates to a minimum of 330 township and inner-road projects across the state during the administration’s first 100 days.
The ADC candidate said the proposed intervention would form part of his administration’s efforts to improve mobility, stimulate economic activities and address infrastructure deficits at the grassroots.
Also speaking on the need for reconciliation within the party, the ADC House of Representatives candidate, Architect Bashiru Lawal, and the party’s Oyo North Senatorial candidate, Dr Lanre Agoro, called for peace, unity and mutual understanding among party members.
The two candidates urged leaders and supporters to avoid hostility, acrimony and actions capable of weakening the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
They particularly cautioned members against attacking one another through the traditional and social media, arguing that internal disagreements should be resolved through dialogue rather than public confrontation.
According to them, a united ADC would be better positioned to mobilise voters and secure victory for its candidates across the state.
The Oyo State Chairman of the ADC, Afees Jimoh, thanked residents and supporters in the Saki axis for their continued support for the party.
Jimoh urged party leaders and members in the area to intensify mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing the importance of taking the party’s message directly to the electorate.
He tasked members with commencing house-to-house campaigns and grassroots mobilisation, while urging them to work collectively for the success of all ADC candidates contesting elective positions in the state.
The visit to the Saki West, Saki East and Atisbo Federal Constituency formed part of Adegoke’s statewide engagement with party leaders and supporters following his emergence as the ADC’s governorship candidate, with the candidate seeking to consolidate the party’s structures and resolve internal differences ahead of the 2027 contest.
