…APC governorship candidate describes former chairman as veteran progressive, dependable leader, pillar of party’s growth in Oyo
The Oyo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator (Dr.) Sharafadeen Alli, has congratulated the immediate past chairman of the party in the state, Alhaji Olayide Moshood Abas, on the occasion of his 77th birthday.
Alli, in a goodwill message personally issued on Sunday, described Abas as a veteran progressive, dependable party leader and one of the pillars of the APC in Oyo State, acknowledging his contributions to the growth, stability and consolidation of the party over the years.
According to the APC governorship candidate, Abas has distinguished himself through decades of political and public service, bringing to the party a wealth of experience, institutional knowledge, wisdom and understanding of the dynamics of party politics.
He noted that the former state chairman’s loyalty and commitment to the progressive cause had made him an invaluable asset to the APC, particularly during periods when the party required experienced hands to provide direction and maintain cohesion.
“All these years, Alhaji Abas has remained a loyal and committed progressive, contributing immensely to the growth and stability of our great party in Oyo State.
“He is a political leader whose wealth of experience and institutional knowledge remain valuable to the APC, especially at a time when the party is consolidating its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections,” Alli said.
Alli further described Abas’ leadership style as one characterised by maturity, courage, sacrifice and commitment to the collective interest of the party, stressing that his years of service had earned him the respect of party members across different levels.
He said Abas’ political experience had enabled him to contribute meaningfully to the management of the party’s affairs and provide stability during critical periods.
The governorship candidate urged younger members of the APC to draw valuable lessons from Abas’ dedication to party organisation, loyalty, sacrifice and respect for established party structures.
He maintained that the contributions of the former chairman would remain part of the political history of the APC in Oyo State.

He also prayed for continued blessings upon the celebrant’s family, wishing him greater fulfilment, happiness and renewed strength in the years ahead.
The congratulatory message comes as political parties in Oyo State continue preparations and mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections, with Alli positioning his message within the broader importance of experience, party cohesion and respect for organisational structures.
