A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja on Monday sacked 20 lawmakers of the Cross River State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) after winning election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The lawmakers had dumped the PDP shortly after Governor Ben Ayade defected to the APC last year.
In his ruling on Monday, Justice Taiwo Taiwo said, by dumping the platform they were elected on, they ought to vacate their seats.
The judgment followed a suit filed by the opposition party last year marked FHC/ABJ/CS/975/2021.
Today’s ruling is similar to recent court vadit on 15 lawmakers of Ebonyi state house of assembly who were sacked by the court for dumping Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for All Progressives Congress (APC) with the state governor, Dave Umahi.
Meanwhile, Messrs Umahi, Igwe and the lawmakers have appealed the verdict of the lower court.
