As the National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is underway at the Eagles Square in Abuja, six of the candidates contesting for national chairman’s position have withdrawn from the race.
The six candidates who withdrew from the race to give former governor Abdullahi Adamu easy ride as a consensus candidate are, former Governor of Nasarrawa State, Sen. Tanko Al-Makura, former Governor of Benue State, Sen. George Akume, former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, Sen. Sani Mohammed, Comrade Etsu Mohammed, and Turaki Salifu Mustapha.
With the development, the coast is clear for APC to announce the candidate of President Mohammadu Buhari, a former Governor under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Abdullahi Adamu, as the party National Chairman.
A letter addressed to the Chairman of the APC Election Sub Committee, dated March 25, and signed by Akume on behalf of the six former candidates, said they decided to agree to having a consensus candidate in accordance with the plea of Buhari for them to withdraw and support Adamu.
