Oriire Attack: Ajadi Mourns Slain Park Guards, Calls for Overhaul of Border Security Architecture

A frontline governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of personnel during the recent bandit attack on the National Park Service facility in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, Ajadi commiserated with the Oyo State Government, the families of the victims, and the people of the state over what he described as a tragic and senseless loss of innocent lives.

Recall that armed men on Tuesday night invaded the National Park Service office in Oloka, Oriire Local Government Area, at about 9:00 p.m., leaving no fewer than five people dead and properties destroyed.

Reacting to the incident, Ajadi strongly condemned the attack, describing it as unfortunate, heartbreaking, and a stark reminder of the persistent security challenges confronting communities in border areas.

While commending Governor Seyi Makinde for his swift and proactive response to the incident, Ajadi noted that the attack underscores the urgent need for a comprehensive review and rebuilding of the state’s security architecture, particularly along border communities that remain vulnerable to external threats.

According to him, the tragedy should serve as a wake-up call for all stakeholders to strengthen surveillance, intelligence gathering, and inter-state security collaboration to prevent a recurrence.

“I sympathise deeply with the victims of the recent attack in Oriire Local Government Area. My heartfelt condolences go to the Government of Oyo State, the families of those who lost their lives, and the entire people of the state,” Ajadi said.

“I also commend our dear Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, for his prompt and proactive response. However, this unfortunate incident should heighten our collective consciousness on the urgent need to rebuild and reinforce the security architecture of Oyo State, especially in the border areas,” he added.

Ajadi prayed for continued peace in the state and expressed hope that such tragic incidents would not recur.
