Senator (Dr.) Sharafadeen Alli has paid glowing tribute to Nigerian workers, describing them as the driving force behind national development and calling for urgent reforms that prioritise their welfare, fairness and dignity.
In a Workers’ Day message made available to journalists on Friday, the Oyo South lawmaker and APC governorship aspirant in Oyo State said the sacrifices of workers must no longer be met with neglect but with deliberate policies that guarantee improved living and working conditions.
He noted that Workers’ Day is not just a ceremonial celebration but a reminder of the historic struggle for fair wages, better working environments and respect for the dignity of labour, stressing that it remains a call to action for both government and employers.
Senator Alli commended workers across Oyo State for their resilience, patriotism and commitment, despite prevailing economic challenges. He said their contributions remain indispensable to productivity, effective governance and national stability.
He urged government at all levels and private sector employers to prioritise prompt payment of salaries and pensions, as well as provide conducive working environments that will motivate the workforce.
“A motivated workforce is central to economic stability, increased productivity and sustainable national development. Workers deserve to receive their wages as and when due,” he said.
The senator emphasised that genuine appreciation of workers must go beyond rhetoric, insisting that it should be reflected in improved welfare packages, job security and opportunities that promote long-term economic empowerment.
Reaffirming his commitment to workers’ rights, Alli pledged to continue advocating policies that will restore the dignity of labour and ensure inclusive governance rooted in fairness, equity and opportunity for all.
He also encouraged workers to remain united, hopeful and steadfast, assuring them that their resilience and dedication will continue to shape a more prosperous and equitable Oyo State.
