A governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, has felicitated with workers across the state on the occasion of the 2026 International Workers’ Day, reaffirming his commitment to sustaining and strengthening pro-worker policies if elected in 2027.
International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day or May Day, is celebrated annually on May 1 to recognise the contributions of workers and the labour movement worldwide.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Ajadi described workers as the engine room of development, noting that no meaningful progress can be achieved without their dedication and sacrifices.
“I rejoice with all workers in Oyo State and across Nigeria on this year’s Workers’ Day. Your contributions to national growth and development are invaluable and must always be recognised and rewarded,” he said.
Ajadi, a businessman and employer of labour, acknowledged the current economic challenges facing workers, stating that rising costs of living have placed significant pressure on their welfare. He expressed optimism that a PDP-led administration at the federal level would implement policies that are more responsive to workers’ needs.
The PDP aspirant also commended Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for maintaining cordial relations with workers, particularly highlighting the consistent payment of salaries and pensions.
“I commend our leader, Governor Seyi Makinde, for his unwavering commitment to workers’ welfare. The regular payment of salaries, often by the 25th of every month, is a clear demonstration of responsible leadership,” Ajadi stated.
He pledged that if given the mandate in 2027, his administration would not only sustain Makinde’s worker-friendly initiatives but also introduce additional measures aimed at improving the welfare, productivity, and overall well-being of civil servants and retirees.
Ajadi concluded by urging workers to remain dedicated and hopeful, assuring them that their interests would remain central to governance under his leadership.
