The Chairman of the Oyo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Ademola Babalola, has applauded the Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Prof. Wasiu Lanre Adeyemo, FAS, for what he described as an extraordinary and exemplary transformation of the federal health institution.
Babalola conveyed his admiration in an open appreciation letter following what he termed a “historic and unforgettable” visit to LUTH, where he was received warmly by the CMD and given an extensive tour of the hospital’s rapidly evolving medical infrastructure.
According to the NUJ Chairman, Prof. Adeyemo’s stewardship represents a renewed hope for Nigeria’s public healthcare sector, demonstrating what visionary leadership, accountability and teamwork can achieve even within a challenging system.
Babalola noted that the progress he witnessed at LUTH reflects a level of innovation and efficiency that surpasses many public and private medical facilities in the country. He praised the management team, clinical staff, and researchers whose dedication, under Adeyemo’s guidance, has placed LUTH in a class of its own.
Highlighting some of the institution’s achievements, he described LUTH as a beacon for tertiary hospitals nationwide. Among the innovations and completed projects he listed are:
- Newly developed VVIP wards that rival top private hospital standards.
- A 36-bed ultra-modern Intensive Care Unit (ICU) equipped with advanced technology.
- An ongoing Geriatric Centre set to redefine care for the elderly.
- A fully refrigerated Blood Bank, guaranteeing safe and accessible blood supply.
- A N1 billion Physiotherapy Centre donated by Chief Wole Olanipekun, SAN.
- A remodeled Accident & Emergency Unit, improved wards with uninterrupted power supply, and multiple high-speed elevators.
- A dedicated Cancer Centre (Oncology Unit) expanding the scope of specialised care.
- A resilient 600 kVA hybrid power infrastructure combining national grid, inverters, and solar power to ensure uninterrupted service delivery.
Babalola remarked that these landmark developments have propelled LUTH ahead of many other tertiary health institutions in Nigeria, noting that Prof. Adeyemo’s leadership “leaves an indelible mark on every corner of the hospital.”
He described the CMD as a visionary administrator whose footprints are both “legendary and transformative,” adding that the progress made at LUTH under his watch should be a model for public health institutions across the country.
The NUJ Chairman further expressed gratitude for the respect and honour accorded him during the visit, describing Prof. Adeyemo as a pride to the nation and a worthy ambassador of Oyo State.
He prayed for Allah to continue to grant the CMD strength, wisdom, and divine guidance to sustain the remarkable progress and service to humanity.
Babalola concluded his message by reaffirming his admiration for Prof. Adeyemo’s leadership and expressing pride in calling him “a true visionary and my esteemed kinsman.”
