Oyo State Acting Governor, Barrister Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, has commiserated with the family of late journalist, Mr. Ojo Peter, who was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan.
The Acting Governor, during a condolence visit to the widow and children of the deceased publisher, expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss and assured that the state government would not abandon the family in their time of grief.
In a statement signed by Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Special Adviser (Media) to the Governor, Lawal described Ojo Peter as a committed professional who contributed meaningfully to journalism in Oyo State. He emphasized that the government recognized his efforts and would explore ways to support his bereaved family.
Lawal was accompanied by the Commissioner for Information, Prince Dotun Oyelade; Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, Hon. Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola; and leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Chapter.
Speaking at the family’s residence, the Acting Governor prayed for God’s comfort upon the widow and children, adding:
“Ojo Peter was a professional, and he left us at his prime. Though his life was cut short, he had the prospect of becoming an even greater asset to the journalism profession. As a government, we appreciate his contributions. That is why so many of his colleagues are here today, to stand with the family. Whatever support we can offer will be considered, and we will get back to the family.”
Lawal also urged journalists across the state to rally around the late journalist’s family, noting that solidarity and compassion from colleagues would help them navigate the painful loss.
