AFCSC Sets Historic Milestone with Maiden Joint Graduation of Senior, Junior Officers

The Armed Forces Command and Staff College (AFCSC), Nigeria, on Friday, December 19, 2025, recorded a major institutional milestone with the conduct of its first-ever Joint Graduation Ceremony for Senior Course 47 and Junior Course 100 at the AVM A.O. Ogundana Officers’ Mess, Jaji Military Cantonment, Kaduna State.

The President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, commended the College for concluding the 2025 training year on a strong note.

He congratulated the graduating officers, describing the ceremony as a powerful reaffirmation of the core values of discipline, dedication and patriotism that define the Nigerian Armed Forces.

President Tinubu, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, CON, reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture through the modernisation of the Armed Forces, enhanced joint operations, sustained investment in capacity development and improved welfare for military personnel.

He further stressed the importance of professionalism, loyalty to constitutional authority, robust civil–military cooperation and strict adherence to democratic principles in confronting Nigeria’s multi-dimensional security challenges.

In his welcome address, the Commandant of AFCSC, Air Vice Marshal Hassan Idris Alhaji, described the joint graduation as the culmination of the College’s 2025 Training Year. He disclosed that the College successfully conducted two Junior Staff Courses and one Senior Staff Course using a contemporary and highly realistic curriculum tailored to current operational realities.

According to him, the curriculum was designed to produce an integrated, modern fighting force anchored on discipline, decisiveness and diligence, and capable of responding effectively to the complexities of today’s battlespace.

The Commandant noted that the evolving security environment, marked by dynamic and asymmetric threats, demands adaptability, intelligent application of technology, cultural awareness and strategic foresight. He also acknowledged the invaluable contributions of international students from across Africa, whose diverse perspectives, he said, enriched the training experience and reinforced regional military cooperation.

The ceremony attracted high-profile dignitaries, including the Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Uba Sani, represented by the Deputy Governor, Dr Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe; former Governor of Benue State, Dr Samuel Ortom; the Chief of Defence Staff, General O.O. Oluyede; and the Service Chiefs.

Also in attendance were senior government officials, principal staff officers from Defence and Service Headquarters, members of the Diplomatic Corps and other distinguished guests.

Highlights of the event included the conferment of the prestigious Pass Staff Course and Pass Junior Staff Course on the graduates, presentation of awards to outstanding students, presentation of souvenirs to the Special Guest of Honour and other special guests, as well as group photographs to commemorate the historic occasion.
